About the CEO
Valerie Myers is a grief specialist and the Founder & CEO of Myers Compassionate Grief Services, LLC (MCGS). She has earned a nationally recognized and highly competitive certification in Thanatology, a Master’s degree in Health Science with a concentration in Thanatology, a graduate certificate in Applied Thanatology, and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Her quiet demeanor and listening skills have helped to bring a sense of calm and comfort to the bereaved. She believes it is vital that our community is educated about the grieving process and have healthy tools to cope with grief. Her dedication, compassion, and commitment are contagious. She is always encouraging others to talk about their grief, and she uses her listening skills to comfort them in a nonjudgmental manner.
Upon her retirement from her managerial state government position, Valerie began to pursue her interest in Thanatology. Her studies were centered around how grief affects our communities, with an emphasis on bereavement educational workshops. Valerie became a volunteer at Roberta’s House, a grief support center in Baltimore, Maryland. After successfully completing her training for the Bereavement Facilitation for Children & Adult Groups volunteer program, she led adult and children grief support groups during office hours and summer camps. She also trained new volunteers and conducted grief workshops. Valerie received the Roberta’s House 2014 Volunteer of the Year award for her dedicated service to the center. Valerie has donated over 1,000 hours to Roberta's House since 2011, and continues to volunteer to this day. She has served in a dual role at Roberta’s House, a volunteer and independent part time contractor for school based projects.Valerie’s goal is to shift the paradigm about grief and death from a taboo subject to one of comfort and normalcy. She lives by the personal motto: ”Find peace so that you will not be in pieces.”

Mission
MCGS believes that all individuals suffering from a loss of a loved need the knowledge and coping skills to navigate the grieving process without embarrassment or shame. We are devoted to providing individuals with education, resources and hope to support a healthy grief recovery. MCGS addresses this need by providing grief services and raising awareness of the needs of grieving individuals. We strive to empower them to move from hopelessness to healing and reconciliation.
Vision
To create a compassionate environment that allows all clients the ability to grieve in a comfortable manner by removing obstacles that may hinder the discussion of death, authenticating all feelings and emotions identified with grief, and providing tools to cope with the grief in a healthy manner.
